I teach media law at Sunderland University and I'm co-author of McNae's Essential Law for Journalists.
I wrote a weekly column for the Daily Post, in North Wales, from 1999-2008 and you'll find the last three years of them here.
I contribute articles on media law to The Guardian.
I also work as a media law consultant. Clients I have worked with include: Press Association, BBC, Northcliffe Newspapers, The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Johnston Press, Northumbria Police, Cafod, Barnardo's, Greenpeace and Comic Relief.
If you would like to talk about consultancy you can contact me at d(dot)banks3(at)btinternet(dot)com
"Slow talkative and lacking direction." - Mr Hinks-Edwards, art teacher and fine judge of character, circa 1978.
"A lively, intelligent, combative and compelling journalist, whose weekly column in the Daily Post was one of the principal reasons for buying it. His departure was a huge error on that newspaper's part" - David Jones, MP for Clwyd West
